Yandex.Disk Without the Yandex Client

Yandex.Disk ships a Windows app, but the app is just a sync client. It downloads files to a local cache, keeps a copy on your disk, and constantly fights your disk space.

Mounting Yandex.Disk as a real Windows drive letter skips all of that. Y: drive. Open files in any app, edit in place, save back. No sync, no cache, no upload button.

The WebDAV Trick

Yandex.Disk publishes a WebDAV endpoint at https://webdav.yandex.ru. Any WebDAV client can connect, but most WebDAV clients cost more than Yandex.Disk itself.

Mount Y: in 60 Seconds

  1. In your Yandex ID account, create an app password for WebDAV access.

  4. Pick a drive letter. Y: is the obvious choice.
  5. Click Connect. Yandex.Disk is now Y:.

What Works on Y:

  • Open a 4 GB presentation from Yandex.Disk in PowerPoint without downloading.
  • Drag a 20 GB video from Y: into DaVinci Resolve. It streams while you edit.
  • Mount multiple Yandex accounts (personal, work, family) as Y:, Z:, W:.
  • Yandex.Disk has no upload size limit on WebDAV. Push 50 GB files without complaint.
  • Sleep and hibernation: ScsDriver keeps the connection alive across power state changes.

Why Lifetime, Not Subscription

The monthly ScsDriver plan is $1.5. After 4 months you have paid $6. The lifetime plan is $5.5. From month 5 onward, the lifetime plan is free.

The Free Tier Caveat

Yandex.Disk free tier is 5 GB. Mount it as Y: drive and you have 5 GB of streaming storage. That is enough for a year of tax returns, a thousand photos, or a season of 4K video projects. Upgrade Yandex.Disk when you outgrow it. The mount tool stays the same.

A Final Note

Yandex.Disk is one of the few Russian-origin services that publishes a working public WebDAV endpoint. ScsDriver handles the connection details, including Yandex's preference for HTTPS basic auth over custom headers.
