Reload NGINX configuration using Docker

If you're using a NGINX Docker image, every time you make a change to the configuration you might want to apply the changes without taking your Docker container.

In order to do this, you should use the following command:

docker exec <container> nginx -s reload
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Specifying you container, either by name or id, you will reload the configuration without taking down your NGINX service.

If you are using Docker Compose, you can run the following command specifying the service name.

docker compose exec <service> nginx -s reload
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode
