Building Sacred: A Privacy-First Period Tracker with an AI Health Assistant for Underserved Communities

DEV Weekend Challenge: Community

This is a submission for the DEV Weekend Challenge: Community

The Community

Here is a stronger and more locally grounded version of “The Community”, clearly referencing language access and subscription barriers relevant to Sri Lanka and South Asia:

The Community

Sacred was built specifically with women and girls in South Asia in mind starting with Sri Lanka.

In many parts of South Asia, menstrual and reproductive health education is still stigmatized, limited, or inconsistently taught. At the same time, most popular cycle tracking apps are designed for English-speaking Western users and often lock essential features behind paid subscriptions.

For many girls and women in Sri Lanka and neighboring regions:

  • English-only interfaces create barriers
  • Subscription fees in foreign currencies make premium features inaccessible
  • Privacy concerns discourage open usage
  • Reliable reproductive health information is not always easy to access

Sacred addresses these gaps directly.

The app begins with language support relevant to Sri Lanka and is designed to expand across South Asia, Asia, and African regions — prioritizing communities that are often overlooked in digital health technology.

Core features are designed to remain accessible without forcing users into recurring subscription models just to access basic health tracking functionality.

Sacred also integrates an optional AI health education assistant to provide general menstrual and reproductive health information privately and without judgment — particularly valuable in communities where open conversations about these topics may not feel safe.

Sacred exists for a community that deserves:

  • Privacy without compromise
  • Language accessibility
  • Affordable access
  • Control over their own health data

This is not just a tracking app — it is a tool built with regional realities in mind.

What I Built

Sacred is a privacy-first menstrual and cycle tracking app for Android and iOS.
It allows users to:

  • Track period start and end dates View full cycle start and end dates.
  • See cycle length and duration at a glance.
  • Visualize phases through a lunar-inspired cycle strip.
  • Export and import their data easily.
  • Use a built-in AI assistant for general menstrual and reproductive health education The AI assistant is designed for educational purposes only and does not automatically access user cycle history. It responds only to what users type in chat.

Sacred is built around three principles: *- Your body - Your data - Your control * Unlike many existing apps, Sacred avoids third-party data monetization and does not lock users into the platform.
