I Wrote a Book on Trading Psychology: 'Right Brain Wins' — Why 95% of Traders Lose
DOYR | Not financial/legal/tax advice. For educational purposes only.
Most trading books are written by people who've never blown an account.
They show you perfect charts, backtested strategies with 99% win rates, and promise millions if you just "follow the system." Then you try it live, lose everything, and realize the book was written by someone who's never actually traded under pressure.
Right Brain Wins is not that book.
I wrote it because I blew my first trading account in 2024 — ₹50,000 to ₹32,000 in 2 weeks. And I realized the problem wasn't my strategy. It wasn't my analysis. It was my brain.
This is the book I wish existed when I started.
What Is Right Brain Wins?
Right Brain Wins is a book on trading psychology that argues the 95% of traders who lose do so not because of bad strategy, but because of unmanaged emotions and wrong-brain execution.
Core thesis: Trading is 20% strategy, 80% psychology. And most traders fail because they use the wrong hemisphere for the wrong task.
The Framework
The book introduces the Dual-Hemisphere Trading Framework:
| Layer | Brain | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Right Brain | Pattern recognition, market feel, intuition |
| 2 | Left Brain | Validation, risk calculation, thesis confirmation |
| 3 | Right Brain | Execution without hesitation |
| 4 | Left Brain | Review, journal, refinement |
The key insight: 95% of traders use left brain for all 4 layers. That's why they analyze perfectly but execute terribly.
Who Should Read This Book?
Perfect For:
| Profile | Why This Book Works |
|---|---|
| Beginners | Prevents the mistakes that destroy 90% of new traders |
| Intermediate traders | Breaks through plateaus by fixing psychology, not strategy |
| Algorithmic traders | Understands why backtests fail live |
| Psychology enthusiasts | Neuroscience applied to markets |
| Anyone who's blown an account | Framework to rebuild without repeating mistakes |
NOT For:
| Profile | Why Skip |
|---|---|
| Get-rich-quick seekers | No promises of millions. Just honest process. |
| Pure technical analysts | You'll resist the "intuition" angle. That's OK. |
| People who want "tips" | This book gives you a framework, not stock picks. |
| Non-Indian traders | Examples are NSE-specific. |

Free Chapter: The 10-Second Rule
From Chapter 7: Execution Without Hesitation.
The Problem
You've done everything right:
- Intuition says buy
- Validation confirms
- Stop loss is set
- Position size is correct
Price hits your entry level.
And you freeze.
Left brain kicks in: "What if it reverses? What if I'm wrong? What if this is a trap?"
3 seconds pass. Price moves up 5 points. You enter at higher price. Stop loss now too tight.
This is execution failure. And it costs more than bad analysis.
The 10-Second Rule
Before every entry:
1. Price hits entry level → STOP
2. Hands off mouse/keyboard
3. Inhale for 4 seconds
4. Exhale for 6 seconds
5. THEN enter
Total delay: 10 seconds.
Why 10 seconds?
- 3 seconds = left brain can't override
- 7 seconds = right brain registers the trade
- 10 seconds = optimal balance
What happens in those 10 seconds:
Second 1-3: Left brain panics. "What if I'm wrong?"
Second 4-7: Right brain takes over. "Trust the process."
Second 8-10: Calm. Clarity. Entry.
Real Example
March 2026. Nifty @ 21,900.
Setup: 22,000 CE @ ₹145. Stop loss ₹80. Target ₹200.
Price hits ₹145.
Without 10-second rule:
- Panic entry at ₹148
- Stop loss at ₹95 (too tight)
- Price dips to ₹90, hits stop
- Loss: ₹3,500
With 10-second rule:
- Breathe. Calm.
- Enter at ₹145
- Stop loss at ₹80 (correct)
- Price goes to ₹200
- Profit: ₹2,750
Same setup. Different execution. +₹6,250 difference.
How to Build the Habit
Week 1: Set timer. Every entry = 10-second pause. Feel awkward.
Week 2: Start breathing consciously. 4 in, 6 out.
Week 3: Notice left-brain thoughts without acting on them.
Week 4: Automatic. You don't need timer anymore.
Month 2: Right brain enters before you realize you're hesitating.
