Hello
today I ran a sever benchmark for axum rust, express node.js, fastapi python.
I was curious to know the results.
what I did was create a simple express server for posting a user info.
the schema included a really good user attributes. it was stored in a mongodb collection.
I used a get method of username with password to fetch the entire user info, also my code included a bcrypt hashing too.
after making this. I recreated the same project in rust and fastapi.
I am sharing the overall results below
this image shows the results.
it is clear rust is much faster than any of its competitions.
this made me sad because the only backend i know well is going to get obsolete in a few years or even months.
if need to survive i must do something fast or I will be done for good.
but the underlying rust code was not at all developer friendly. I got a headache just by reading it.
one day may be I will learn it I think?
I am considering fastapi a good choice because it is faster than express simpler than rust and express, easy to use.
the reason to use express still is
- easy to setup
- simple boilerplate code
- nice routing setup
- great learning curve
- huge package libraries
- maintaining legacy projects
