How about this take: it devalues their work. Giving employer more reason not to compensate properly.
Software development has a real image problem. It is constantly being downplayed as something which is easy to learn and easy to do. This is done or purpose to drive down compensation, because anybody can pick it up.
I couldn't agree more. There's a whole lot more to software than just understanding syntax and writing and few if-else blocks.
