n8n is a workflow automation tool. You connect apps with visual blocks called nodes, and n8n moves data between them when something happens, such as a new form answer or a set time. It also has nodes for AI models, so you can add a text summary or an AI step to a workflow.
Is it worth learning in 2026?
It is worth it if you like solving small practical problems and you are happy to read error messages. It is less useful if you only need one simple link between two apps, where a built-in integration is easier. No tool guarantees clients or income.

Your first workflow in 6 steps
- Pick your route: a hosted trial (no server) or the free self-hosted Community Edition.
- Choose one boring task, for example saving form answers to a sheet.
- Build it with 3 nodes: a trigger, one action and one output. Run each step by hand and read the data.
- Store credentials safely: keep every API key in n8n credentials, never inside a node field or a code box.
- Turn it on and watch it for a week, and add an error notification.
- Document it in three lines, then repeat with a second task.
Making money with n8n
n8n does not pay you. People build and maintain automations for small businesses or add the skill to a job they already have. Many beginners earn little at first, so no income is promised.
