Most product descriptions are features lists. Nobody cares.
People buy outcomes. They buy the version of themselves after using your product.
Here's how to write descriptions that sell:
Lead With the Problem
Don't start with what your product is. Start with what it fixes.
Bad: "A financial model spreadsheet with 6 tabs and formulas."
Good: "Know exactly when you'll run out of money and what to do about it."
The first describes a thing. The second describes a result.
Use Specific Numbers
Vague claims are ignored. Specific claims are believed.
Bad: "Save time on financial planning."
Good: "Build your investor-ready financial model in 2 hours instead of 2 weeks."
Bad: "Get more customers."
Good: "The exact DMs I used to get my first 47 customers."
Specificity builds trust.
Show, Don't Tell
Don't say your product is easy to use. Show it.
Include screenshots. GIFs. A 30-second demo video.
Let people see the inside before they buy. Transparency converts.
Address Objections Head-On
What stops people from buying? Say it first.
"I don't know Excel." → "No Excel skills needed. Every cell has a note explaining what to change."
"What if it doesn't work for me?" → "30-day money back guarantee. No questions asked."
"Is this worth the price?" → "One hour of a CFO's time costs $300. This is $29."
When you name the objection, you remove its power.
End With a Clear Action
Tell people exactly what to do next.
Bad: "Check it out."
Good: "Click Buy Now. Download instantly. Start modeling in 5 minutes."
Remove all friction between reading and buying.
Your product description is a sales page. Treat it like one.
Every word should earn its place. If it doesn't move someone closer to buying, delete it.
