12 Midjourney Prompts That Generate Commercial-Ready Designs (I Tested 500+)
After generating 2,000+ images with Midjourney for real client projects, I've learned one brutal truth: 90% of AI-generated designs look like AI generated them.
The plastic skin, the weird hands, the "uncanny valley" lighting — clients spot these instantly.
But the top 10%? Clients can't tell the difference. They pay $200-$500 per design and come back for more.
Here are the 12 Midjourney prompts I use repeatedly for commercial work — product mockups, social media campaigns, brand assets, and packaging design. Each one includes the exact parameters that make the difference.
Why Most Midjourney Prompts Fail Commercially
Before the prompts, let's talk about what goes wrong:
- Too vague — "a coffee shop logo" gives you a generic result any competitor can reproduce
- Wrong aspect ratio — designing a 1:1 image for a 16:9 banner wastes everyone's time
- No style anchoring — without referencing specific design movements, results drift into AI-land
- Ignoring medium — print design needs different prompts than web design
- Missing brand consistency — each prompt exists in isolation instead of building a visual system
My approach: Every prompt follows a formula. Once you learn it, you can adapt it to any commercial need.
The Commercial Prompt Formula
Every profitable Midjourney prompt I write follows this structure:
[SUBJECT] + [STYLE REFERENCE] + [LIGHTING/MOOD] + [COMPOSITION] + [MEDIUM] + [COLOR PALETTE] + [PARAMETERS]
Example breakdown:
- Subject: minimalist perfume bottle on white marble
- Style reference: editorial luxury product photography
- Lighting/mood: soft golden hour light, premium, calm
- Composition: centered, negative space for headline
- Medium: high-end product photo, realistic texture
- Palette: warm amber, cream, soft gold
- Parameters: aspect ratio, stylize value, version, quality
Now let's turn that into reusable prompts.
1. Premium Product Mockup
minimalist skincare bottle on travertine stone, luxury editorial product photography, soft diffused morning light, clean shadows, centered composition with negative space, warm beige and ivory palette, realistic glass and label texture --ar 4:5 --style raw --v 6
Use this for skincare, supplements, candles, perfume, and boutique products. Replace the object and palette, but keep the material details.
2. Social Media Campaign Visual
modern coffee brand campaign image, iced latte cup on colorful acrylic blocks, playful Gen Z advertising style, crisp studio lighting, bold geometric composition, coral orange and sky blue palette, high-resolution commercial photography --ar 1:1 --style raw --v 6
This works well for Instagram launches, food brands, drink brands, and seasonal promos.
3. SaaS Landing Page Hero Image
abstract 3D dashboard interface floating in dark space, premium SaaS website hero visual, glassmorphism cards, subtle neon blue highlights, depth of field, clean futuristic composition, professional B2B technology aesthetic --ar 16:9 --style raw --v 6
Great for startups that need a hero visual before they have a polished product UI.
4. Packaging Concept
premium matcha tea packaging box on matte paper background, Japanese minimal design influence, elegant typography placeholder, soft natural light, product packaging mockup, sage green cream and charcoal palette, realistic paper texture --ar 4:5 --style raw --v 6
For packaging, always mention material: matte paper, recycled cardboard, glass, foil, embossed label, etc.
5. Poster Design
retro futurist music festival poster, bold sun gradient, mountain silhouette, clean vector shapes, Swiss grid layout, grainy screen print texture, orange purple and deep navy palette, commercial poster design --ar 2:3 --v 6
Useful for merch, event posters, album covers, and print-on-demand designs.
6. Restaurant Brand Visual
artisan pizza restaurant brand photography, handmade pizza on rustic ceramic plate, overhead composition, natural window light, Mediterranean color palette, authentic editorial food photography, warm inviting mood --ar 4:5 --style raw --v 6
Food prompts improve dramatically when you specify camera angle and lighting.
7. App Store Screenshot Background
soft gradient mobile app presentation background, floating smartphone mockups, clean UI showcase style, subtle shadows, modern fintech aesthetic, blue violet and white palette, lots of empty space for text --ar 16:9 --style raw --v 6
Use for app landing pages, Product Hunt launches, and investor decks.
8. Fashion Editorial
streetwear model wearing oversized neutral hoodie, urban concrete background, high fashion editorial photography, soft cloudy daylight, confident pose, muted earth tone palette, realistic fabric texture, commercial campaign image --ar 4:5 --style raw --v 6
The key phrase here is “realistic fabric texture.” It reduces the plastic AI look.
9. Etsy Digital Product Mockup
printable wall art mockup in Scandinavian living room, framed abstract botanical poster, natural linen sofa, warm neutral interior styling, soft daylight, realistic home decor photography --ar 4:5 --style raw --v 6
Perfect for Etsy sellers who need clean mockups for digital downloads.
10. YouTube Thumbnail Background
dramatic AI coding workspace, laptop with glowing code editor, cinematic blue and purple lighting, shallow depth of field, high contrast, clean empty area on right for bold text, tech creator thumbnail style --ar 16:9 --v 6
Leave text out of the image. Add readable typography later in Canva, Figma, or Photoshop.
11. Brand Pattern
seamless vector pattern of tiny coffee cups croissants and stars, cute minimalist illustration style, cream background, warm brown and soft pink palette, commercial packaging pattern, repeat tile --tile --v 6
Patterns are underrated because one good pattern can become packaging, wrapping paper, fabric, wallpaper, stickers, and social media backgrounds.
12. Print-on-Demand T-Shirt Graphic
cute cat programmer sitting on laptop, clean vector t-shirt graphic, bold outlines, limited 4 color palette, transparent background look, centered composition, no mockup, no text, screen print ready --ar 1:1 --v 6
For POD, avoid tiny details. Designs need to read from a distance.
My Quick Quality Checklist
Before I deliver or sell any AI-generated visual, I check:
- Does it match the client's actual brand category?
- Is the aspect ratio correct for the final placement?
- Are there weird hands, text artifacts, warped logos, or impossible objects?
- Is there enough negative space for copy?
- Can this become a consistent visual system, not just one pretty image?
The best prompt is not the longest prompt. It is the prompt that defines the commercial outcome clearly.
Final Tip
If you want better results, do not ask Midjourney for “beautiful.” Ask for the business use case: product mockup, landing page hero, packaging concept, campaign image, thumbnail background, or print-ready graphic.
That one shift makes your prompts dramatically more useful.
