The weeds are pulled, the dirt is off my boots, and today I'm back in front of the keyboard.
By the way - my garden totally looks like a battleground from a WW2 movie!
This made me realize something: I bring my coding mindset straight into the real world. Let me explain.
The little lady and I have been neglecting our garden for a few years, so when I finally prioritized putting some real effort into it, the entire project exploded!
We live on a corner lot and have two neighbors with whom we share fences.
One of our neighbors is even less of a garden person than we are, so I realized that many of the suckers along the fence actually crept in from their soil, not ours.
And once I started noticing the suckers - they were everywhere!
And they were wreaking havoc. The suckers were the cause of the fence leaning out, parts of the lawn being completely uneven, parts of a stone fence collapsing, etc.
Armed with an 8 kg wrecking bar, I'm meticulously tearing up the entire garden, hunting down the ROOT cause of my problems.
Hence why my garden now looks like a battleground!
It's the exact same thing that happens to me when solving a programming task.
The second I open a project and see hardcoded configs, no ability to develop locally, and zero test coverage - my brain simply refuses to paint over the rotten woodwork.
I can't just fix that one localized bug and pretend everything else is fine. I find myself tearing down the entire dependency tree, ripping bloated abstractions out by their roots, containerizing the whole environment, and rebuilding the pipeline from scratch until the ground is solid again.
Before you know it, what was supposed to be a five-minute tweak has turned into a scorched-earth refactoring spree - and my Git diff looks like a crime scene.
And I can't turn that switch in my head off!
Today my body is physically refusing to do any more gardening, so I'll be overengineering a new repo - a blog and a highly specialized booking system.
I don't know if I'll ever get back to a "real" job, but today I'm coding like there's no tomorrow! :)
