💀 SÉANCE-OS : Ghost in the Machine

An atmospheric, offline, open-source AI paranormal runtime, haunted shell, and Día de los Muertos digital sanctuary.

🌺 The Inspiration

Between October 31 (Halloween) and November 1–2 (Día de los Muertos), the stretch of the calendar thins the line between the past and present, between silicon and spirit.

SÉANCE-OS captures both sides of this veil:

  1. The Spooky ("Ghost in the Machine"): A haunted terminal where an autonomous Null Pointer Daemon whispers back eerie commentary on every command you run, a nocturnal sensor log weaver that transforms 3:00 AM smart-home IoT logs into spine-chilling ghost stories, and a procedural Web Audio EVP spirit box.
  2. The Sacred ("Día de los Muertos"): In Mexican tradition, death is not an end—a person only dies when they are forgotten. SÉANCE-OS features El Altar de las Ánimas, a candlelit, marigold-strewn digital ofrenda that composes traditional calaveritas…

The Inspiration

SÉANCE-OS features El Altar de las Ánimas, a candlelit, marigold-strewn digital ofrenda that composes traditional calaveritas literarias (lyrical poetic epitaphs in verse) and archives sacred family stories 100% locally on your machine—never sent to corporate clouds.
  3. The NecroLang Séance: Commune across the veil of computing history with the departed souls of pioneers: Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper, Dennis Ritchie, John McCarthy, and the nostalgic ghost of Macromedia/Adobe Flash (ActionScript).

The 5 Chambers

1. Chamber I: The Haunted Terminal (ghost-sh)

  • Full CRT retro terminal emulator with scanlines, amber/green phosphors, and command history.
  • Run real commands (ls, whoami, ps, cat, git status).
  • The Null Pointer Daemon lurks beneath stdout, intercepting operations and delivering chilling commentary on memory leaks, doomed processes, and magnetic ghosts.

2. Chamber II: El Altar de las Ánimas (Día de los Muertos)

  • Multi-tiered glowing altar featuring animated candle flames (veladoras), falling orange marigolds (cempasúchil), and offerings (pan de muerto, copal).
  • Calaverita Literaria Bard: Automatically composes authentic, rhyming 4-stanza Mexican memorial verses honoring ancestors or tech visionaries.
  • Local Vector Memory Store: Offline TF-IDF and Cosine Similarity search over personal memories and family lore with 100% data sovereignty.

3. Chamber III: The NecroLang Séance

Commune directly with computing's departed minds:

  • Ada Lovelace (1815–1852): Victorian poetic science, Babbage's Analytical Engine, and Bernoulli numbers.
  • Grace Hopper (1906–1992): Mother of COBOL, debugging the first moth, and 11.8-inch nanosecond wires.
  • Dennis Ritchie (1941–2011): Pointers, Unix philosophy, Bell Labs simplicity, and printf("Hello, world\n").
  • John McCarthy (1927–2011): The dawn of AI, garbage collection, and recursive LISP S-expressions (car (cdr ...)).
  • ActionScript Specter (1996–2020): Flash games, Newgrounds, preloaders, stick figures, and vector dreams.

4. Chamber IV: NightWatch Nocturnal Sensor Weaver

  • Ingests smart-home IoT logs (PIR motion detectors, sudden temperature plunges, acoustic decibels, unlatched deadbolts) or OS kernel zombie traces.
  • Calculates a Spectral Resonance Index (0–100%) and classifies the entity (Class IV Poltergeist, Inode Shade, Electronic Voice Phantasm).
  • Crafts an atmospheric gothic cyber-horror story describing exactly what happened in your home while you were asleep.

5. Chamber V: EVP Spirit Box & Spectral Oscilloscope

  • Real-time procedural audio engine built on the Web Audio API (zero audio file dependencies).
  • Sweeps between 88.0 MHz and 108.0 MHz with resonant bandpass white noise.
  • Generates 55 Hz / 110 Hz sub-bass carrier drones and spirit whisper pulses.
  • Real-time canvas oscilloscope visualizing the spectral frequencies in phosphor green.

Open-Source AI at its Core

SÉANCE-OS is engineered around open AI models and frameworks:

  1. Ollama Integration: Connects seamlessly to locally running open-weight models (llama3.2, mistral, gemma2, qwen2.5, phi3).
  2. OpenAI-Compatible Local Endpoints: Works with LM Studio, LocalAI, vLLM, or text-generation-webui (http://127.0.0.1:1234/v1).
  3. Built-in Offline Spectral Engine: A zero-dependency autonomous semantic engine that guarantees the application runs anywhere—even on an airplane or an off-grid cabin in the woods—with instant zero-delay responses.
  4. Local Scikit-Learn Vector Store: TF-IDF and Cosine Similarity vector indexing running directly on disk (data/memories/), preserving sacred family memories with zero cloud leakage.

Culture & Remembrance

"No hay olvido donde hay memoria."
(There is no oblivion where there is memory.)

In Mexican culture, the Día de los Muertos ofrenda is a sacred bridge of marigold petals connecting the realm of the living with our ancestors. SÉANCE-OS honors this heritage with utmost reverence: family photos, cherished recipes, and private grief belong to the family alone. By anchoring this experience to open-source, on-device AI, we ensure that memories remain eternal, sacred, and private.
