Swipe Again for Swipe Again

A Failed Payment Is Not a Churn Event

Dashboards love a single churn number, so failed payments get swept into it — and the moment they are, two different problems start sharing one budget and one strategy. Voluntary churn is a value problem: the customer weighed the product and chose to leave. A failed payment is an operations problem: the customer chose nothing; their bank did.

Treating an operations problem with value-problem tools — win-back discounts, exit surveys, brand campaigns — wastes money and, worse, trains happy customers to expect a discount for a card expiring. The two problems get separated first, or neither gets solved.

Swipe Again exists for the operations half only — which is why its comparisons, like the Churnkey alternative page, talk about retries and recovery mechanics instead of win-back theatre.
