The world is moving fast toward complete digital transformation. As technology becomes central to every major industry, from finance to healthcare, I realized early on that staying on the sidelines was never an option for me.
I chose software engineering because of the future it holds and the opportunity to build systems people actually rely on every single day. As a senior student, my current focus is on full-stack web development, and my long-term plan is to move deeper into cybersecurity. To put theory into practice, I started building Al-Shifa Medical Center (مركز الشفاء الطبي), an interactive healthcare platform with a modern dark theme, role-based workflows, and digital health records.
This project was also my first time using AI tools extensively from day one. Working through it taught me a lot about real-world development, where AI actually fits in, and how I see my career evolving.
Building with AI in a Real Project
There is a lot of talk right now about whether AI is going to replace engineers. After building and iterating on this platform, my take on it changed quite a bit.
First, AI saves a massive amount of time, but only if you know exactly how to direct it. Vague prompts give you broken or generic code. Clear architectural requirements, specific UI constraints, and targeted questions turn it into an incredible speed boost.
Second, solid fundamentals are still non-negotiable. If you do not understand the underlying stack, you cannot debug state issues, broken routing, or unexpected component re-renders. AI gives you suggestions, but you still have to verify everything and fix the edge cases yourself.
Because of that, I do not believe engineers are getting replaced anytime soon. Writing syntax is only a fraction of the job. Making architectural decisions, understanding tradeoffs, and designing for real people still require human judgment. AI changes our workflow, but engineers are still the ones driving the project.
Looking Ahead
Looking at where I want to go after graduation, I have a few clear goals in mind.
I want to grow into an engineer who can take full ownership of projects, make solid technical decisions, and build clean, maintainable systems. Competing at a high level in full.
