AMD's ML-based upscaler originally needed FP8 matrix acceleration, which kept it on Radeon RX 9000 and later RX 7000 cards. FSR 4.1 changes that: the neural network model has been adapted to run on INT8 shader support, and according to technical reports the version for laptops is less than half the size of the full model.
What's available now and what isn't:
- PC: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 (published 20 October 2026) enables FSR 4.1 on Radeon RX 6000 cards and on Ryzen AI Max / AI 9 systems.
- Xbox Series X|S and ROG Xbox Ally: Microsoft says it's working with AMD on it, but there's no date for the console rollout yet.
- Also in the release: frame-pacing improvements for FSR Frame Generation, announced Vulkan support and wider FSR Ray Regeneration integration.
For developers targeting Series S in particular, better reconstruction from lower internal resolutions is the interesting part, with a small performance cost on older GPUs according to early tests.
