OpenAI announced GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, 2026. It's available in ChatGPT Work and Codex on paid plans, and through the API as gpt-6.1-terra.

API pricing (standard rates)

  • $1 per million input tokens
  • $0.05 per million cached input tokens
  • $5 per million output tokens

That's 50% below GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. Keep in mind this is a per-token price, so real savings depend on your token mix, especially how much of your input hits the cache.

Benchmarks, with their conditions

  • Terminal-Bench 4.0 at maximum reasoning effort: 50.3% of tasks solved, versus 21.5% for GPT-5.6 Terra.
  • On an internal set of error-inducing prompts: a 16.7% error rate at low effort and 4.3% at maximum effort.

These are results from specific tests under specific settings, not a general guarantee for every workload. If you run high-volume jobs, it's worth benchmarking Terra on your own tasks before switching.
