How I Built It
I built SideQuest AI, a small AI-powered tool designed to help students discover ways to make money online using their existing skills.
The idea came from a simple problem: a lot of students want to start earning money, but they don’t know which side hustle to choose, where to begin, or how to get their first client.
The tool helps users explore potential side hustles, identify the skills they already have, and turn those skills into actionable steps.
I focused on keeping the experience simple and beginner-friendly. Instead of overwhelming users with hundreds of business ideas, the goal is to help them find a realistic starting point.
The project combines a lightweight application interface with AI-powered recommendations to make exploring potential income streams easier.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation makes it easier for developers to experiment, build on existing technology, and create useful tools without needing a massive budget.
For students especially, access to open-source AI models and frameworks lowers the barrier to building products that could eventually become real businesses.
It also gives developers more flexibility to customize their tools, learn how the underlying technology works, and avoid being completely dependent on a single proprietary platform.
I wanted this project to explore how accessible AI can help people move beyond simply consuming information and start taking practical steps toward earning money.
