This is the canonical version of a comparison I published on my own blog, AI Stack Lab — same research, same dates, one home for it.

Most "best AI headshot generator" lists read like a feature dump. I read five vendors' own pricing and privacy pages on 28 October 2026 and compared the only things that decide the purchase: what one payment actually buys, how fast the images come back, what resolution you get, and what happens to the face photos you upload. Honest disclosure: I did not run any of these tools end to end — testing needs an account, a real face and, for most of them, payment. So this is a comparison of published terms, not a quality verdict on the output.

This guide compares five names that keep showing up in searches: HeadshotPro, Aragon, BetterPic, Canva and Fotor. It covers what you get per payment, export resolution, turnaround, and the part most roundups skip: what happens to the photos you upload. Every number below comes from the vendor's own page, which I read on 28 October 2026. Where a page would not show a number, I say so rather than guess.

Honest disclosure: I did not run any of these tools end to end. Testing needs an account, a real face upload and, for most of them, payment. I did not do any of that for this article, so nothing here is a quality verdict on the image output. It is a comparison of published terms.

The 30-Second Answer

  • Want to pay nothing: Canva's AI headshot tool advertises two free generations, then a 24-hour wait.
  • Best published value for a paid shoot: HeadshotPro's $39 tier (50 headshots, about 30 minutes) or Aragon's $45 tier (60 headshots).
  • Highest stated resolution at the low end: BetterPic advertises 4K on every individual tier.
  • Cleanest published privacy statement for individuals: HeadshotPro, BetterPic and Aragon all describe deletion on a schedule, but the details differ (see the privacy section).
  • Fotor: one-time packages and a free redo, but its pricing page did not show headshot prices to my reader, so I cannot quote them.

What "Free" Actually Means in This Niche

There are two honest models. A free quick tool takes one photo and restyles it. A paid shoot trains a small custom model on 8 to 12 or more of your photos and generates many looks. BetterPic's own site recommends uploading 8 to 12 varied photos and says its model trains on 8 images. The paid services do not offer a no-card free trial in the pages I read, though several offer money-back terms.

For a LinkedIn avatar, which LinkedIn itself recommends at 400 x 400 pixels according to Aragon's FAQ, even the lowest resolution below is more than enough. Higher resolution only matters if you print or crop tightly.

Tool-by-Tool

HeadshotPro

HeadshotPro's pricing page lists three one-time individual tiers, with no subscription:

  • Basic, $29: 30 headshots, about 2 hours, 6 photo credits for edits.
  • Professional, $39: 50 headshots, about 30 minutes, 26 photo credits, one free redo.
  • Executive, $59: 70 headshots, about 15 minutes, 46 photo credits, one free redo.

The comparison grid says 4K downloads are Executive only, so the cheaper tiers do not get that. The page also advertises a money-back guarantee if the results do not look like you. Photo credits are for post-edits (the "credit" here is not a generation count), which is worth knowing before you compare "per credit" figures across vendors.

Aragon

Aragon's pricing page showed a limited-time 20% discount, so I list the current price first and the struck-through list price second:

  • Basic, $35 (list $44): 40 headshots, 45 minutes, one attire and one background.
  • Standard, $45 (list $56): 60 headshots, 30 minutes, two attires and backgrounds. The page labels it as the most-picked plan.
  • Executive, $75 (list $94): 100 headshots, 15 minutes, all attires and backgrounds, enhanced resolution.

The FAQ states Basic and Standard photos are 896 x 1088 pixels, and Executive is 1792 x 2176. That is clear spec-sheet honesty and rare in this category. The refund is available if you have not downloaded the photos; after download it is case by case. A free redo is offered through support.

BetterPic

BetterPic's pricing page lists three individual tiers: Basic (20 headshots, one style, ready in 2 hours), Pro (60 headshots, three styles, 1.5 hours) and Expert (120 headshots, six styles, 1 hour, one free redo). All three are advertised as 4K and include a commercial license, with a 7-day refund policy (terms apply). The dollar amounts did not appear in the text I could read, so I am not quoting any. Check the live page before buying.

Canva

Canva's AI headshot generator page says you get two free credits, then you wait 24 hours for more. You upload a photo, pick a gender option and get a restyled result. The page did not state export resolution or watermarking for the AI output, and the Canva pricing page returned only navigation text to my reader, so I cannot tell you whether paid plans change the limits. If you already live in Canva, it is the cheapest experiment. Treat it as a quick filter, not a studio shoot.

Fotor

Fotor's headshot page promises results in about 10 seconds from a selfie and says it will reset your credits if a result misses your likeness. Its pricing page describes one-time headshot packages with a free redo and "HD" quality, but the per-package prices were not readable in what I fetched. I could not verify the free allowance or watermark behavior, so I will not describe them.

Comparison Table

Tool Entry price Headshots (entry / top) Turnaround Stated resolution Free option
HeadshotPro $29 30 / 70 ~2 h to ~15 min 4K on Executive only None seen; money-back guarantee
Aragon $35 (discounted) 40 / 100 45 to 15 min 896x1088; 1792x2176 on Executive None seen; free redo
BetterPic Not readable 20 / 120 2 h to 1 h 4K, all tiers None seen; 7-day refund
Canva Free allowance 2 credits Not stated Not stated 2 credits, 24 h wait
Fotor Not readable Not stated "Quick" "HD" Not verified

Privacy: The Real Differentiator

You are handing over a set of clear face photos. Read the retention terms before the style gallery.

  • HeadshotPro: its pricing page says input photos are always deleted 30 days after generation and are never used to train AI models. Its privacy policy says personal information is deleted within 14 days of a request to stop using the service, unless the law requires longer retention.
  • Aragon: its privacy policy says face data is deleted or anonymized within 30 days of delivery of your AI content, or sooner on a deletion request or account closure. The exception is active subscribers, whose face data may be kept until the subscription ends. It also says it contractually prohibits its AI providers from using face data to train generalized models and does not sell face data.
  • BetterPic: its homepage says images are stored for a maximum of 30 days after delivery or approval, then permanently deleted, and that it never sells your data or uses images to train AI models. I could not open a separate privacy policy page (the URLs I tried returned 404), so this rests on marketing copy, not policy text.
  • Canva: the upload box points to Canva's Privacy Policy. I did not read it, so I make no claim.
  • Fotor: I did not read its privacy policy.

A vendor's own claim is still only a claim. Before uploading, look for a deletion button in your account, and keep a note of the date you generated. A 30-day auto-delete is a good sign, not an audit.

Which One Should You Use?

  • One LinkedIn photo, zero budget: try Canva's two free credits. Expect a filter-style result.
  • A dependable paid shoot: HeadshotPro Professional or Aragon Standard. Both land around $40 for 50 to 60 images.
  • Print or large crop: choose a tier that states high resolution: HeadshotPro Executive, Aragon Executive or any BetterPic tier.
  • Privacy first: prefer vendors with a written deletion schedule you can quote, which on the evidence above means HeadshotPro or Aragon.

Who This Is NOT For

  • People who need a result that is strictly "real". Some employers, licensing bodies and dating or verification sites expect an unedited photo. AI output can polish your face beyond what you look like.
  • Anyone uncomfortable uploading face photos at all. A good retention policy lowers the risk but does not remove it. A friend with a phone near a window is the zero-risk option.
  • Buyers who want proof of quality from me. I did not test the output, so use the refund and redo terms as your safety net.

Verdict

For most people, a paid shoot around $40 beats a free filter if the photo needs to look credible on a professional profile. HeadshotPro and Aragon publish the clearest specs and deletion terms, and BetterPic competes on stated 4K resolution once you confirm its current price. Canva is the sensible zero-cost first try. Whatever you pick, upload varied, well-lit selfies, check the deletion policy, and use the refund window before you commit your profile to the result.
