I dabbled in Python for years and while I don't use it much anymore I still do use it and I've been thinking about customizing my prompt eventually, so thanks for this.
A little coincidence that I'm writing a git command line suite (for myself really) and I just wrote a section of code that had that --show-current just last night lol.

Git has such a deep API, I generally get most of those things from google search.
That is fairly close. For as long as I have lived in Illinois I still feel like I don't know it very well.
