I too thought of
dev.toas a kind-of open-source Medium alternative after I read about the site. Although, I like GitHub's "sponsor me" feature, which is kind of what Medium offers too. Except, they have the forced reading throttling they do unless you are a subscriber.oh, I use Medium too, mostly for clipping my tech reads (medium.com/@TarasNovak/has-recomme...).
Sponsor me is an interesting feature. However, in my experience most devs just skim articles or try new tools & rarely hit that sponsor button.
You'd be lucky if they ⭐️ your repo || buy you a cup of coffee to sponsor your passion. For example, my vscode Data Preview 🈸 extension has over 23K installs & I only had 3 devs buy me a ☕️ on ko-fi.com/dataPixy :)

Well, from the perspective of career there is a lot of well paid jobs around the world for all levels of knowledge. On a personal basis I love the ability to understand both software and hardware - the latter is more for CE than SE though - and the flexibility to switch from one industry to another without too much effort.
There's a lot of work to do in order to become a good SE and basically you'll never stop studying new stuff but that's the beauty of it, isn't it? :)

I used to be a very skilled programmer a long time ago. For some crazy reason I lost interest in developing and went to try different stuff in other areas. After 6 years I felt really sorry for my bad decision and now I'm trying to make up for lost time. Hello I just heard of this website through RealToughCandy on YouTube and decided to check it out, and it looks great. The programming language I use the most frequently is javascript, and I have been experimenting a lot with Three.js and A-Frame recently. Also working on getting better at React and am currently working on an exciting app using React and Redux. I am a Software Engineer who had first fell in love with Java ... Until life introduced many other flavours during my course of 4+10 years coding (college+work).
Currently I do mainly web development (angular) with backend of Java (still strong this one :) ).
I am enthusiastic about mobile dev, I developed couple of android apps for learn and fun (flutter is my next project).
Worked with GIS for 9 years, python was introduced here.
And oh yeah .. I like having fun with smart things & automations (done few arduino projects).

I'm not a developer but a learning professional who spent a large portion of his career supporting IT, data analytics, and other tech-focused departments in large corporations. Think business analysts, software developers, the test center of excellence, PMO, etc.
To make a long story short, three years ago I founded my own learning company with the focus of providing technology solutions for learning professionals specifically. The team I've worked with over that time produced some top-notch work, but unfortunately, our lead developer needs to step away due to personal matters.
We are currently holding off on building new solutions, but we have one just about ready to go that integrates into Atlassian’s Jira platform. (The only thing we are still working on is a formatting issue regarding page breaks for printing.)
Because it would be irresponsible to release an app into the Atlassian marketplace without the ability to support it, I’m currently looking for an individual who is interested in acting as the point of contact to execute the responsibilities of our SLA. (Normal work hours 9-5 M-F)
I do not anticipate this requiring significant time nor am I looking for someone to add new features and functionality, but like I said, I know better than to just release an app (no matter how well built), into the world without support. Of course, interested individuals can inspect the code base after signing the necessary confidentiality agreements.
Thus, if you or someone you know is looking for supplemental income please reach out. As you can imagine we built it in React (duh) and it utilizes Material UI as its framework.

I finally took a bold step to pursue my passion for database management that I'd been holding off for more than a decade. Took a crash course in SQL and Oracle about 12 years ago and shelved the idea to continue my career as a Finance/Accounting expert. Fast forward 2019, and I've finally taken that bold step to immerse myself completely in all things backend development.
Better late than never!
I wrote my first programme in 1983 and caught the bug. Very interested in mathematical models and digitization.
Did Comp Sci and maths at uni to that end and have programmed most things including helping analyze where a robot should drill a hole through someone's leg to fix an intramedullary nail.
Interested in how teams and businesses work effectively as well as fundamental algorithms. Have many languages under my belt.

In my current class, I am learning the basics of creating a template that has a header aside, aside, body and footer. And then using CSS to style and then java and jQuery for things like hover effects, transition, drop-down menu, and a slider for images.

I love working on SPA and dynamic projects with Vue.js (my first framework) and my next quests will be getting comfortable with either Bootstrap or Bulma, and then trying out serverless app development. There's a lot of cool stuff in this discipline and it's easy to do down rabbit holes. Good thing I like doing that. 🙃

I kept getting DEV in my daily Google news feed articles and there was interesting to see that some devs are vim lovers.
Being a sys admin / integration engineer I was interested to see how developers use vim. (i.e. I use shellcheck, syntax highlighting, linting, git for version control of scripts / tools I create). So there's a lot of crossover here I feel. Being mainly behind the scenes and keeping the wheels turning its good to see what the frontenders
In the past I have hardware hacked with Aurdino, I have developed a Robot vision system with Python, OpenCV using HSV for object detection and movement adjustment for the servos / motors. I uploaded an old video here: youtu.be/pazQOwdE9pk
There seems to a lack of old school tools (expect) and OS / network wrangling scripting (python / pyshark etc), but I think perhaps that's a bit too far down the sysadmin path for this forum.

Simply put, Medium is no more a good place to write stuff, as every time I need to access some content, a subscription is offered to me. I know that it must earn money someway and that's fine to me, but the way it is doing does not fit for me. Talking about Dev.to, c'mon, it's lot better! Google always stores it offline so I can read it when I am in way to my home, I like pretty much as it matches my expectations as a developer. Let's go!
