I need a little help from the whole community...

A few years ago when I first started programming, a couple of kids from a local high school were on the news for winning the a challenge. A challenge named the "Congressional App Challenge".

Winning such a challenge is one of the biggest achievements a software engineer can acquire.

I need help.

In order to participate: you must be in either middle or high school. Your district Representative also must agree to take part in it.

My Representative, Francis Rooney (FL 19); has chosen to not take part in it. I am also in the 11th grade currently. This maybe my only shot at this.

My parents and I have been sending letters, and making several phone calls to Rooney's offices, as well as the local school district to see if they can assist.

We just got the call that Rooney has a firm stance on not participating.

This is rather irritating. The only reason we got from his assistant, is that we're the only ones to call about it. I also feel there is the slightest correlation with his age truth be told. I feel he just doesn't understand the importance of this challenge.

I'm hoping to get enough people to contact his office, as well as any other district that isn't participating, and explain the importance of the CAC.

Contact Rooney's offices:
Local number: (239) 599-6033
D.C number: (202) 225-2536

Because one man decided simply "to not check a box", I am now excluded from a life changing opportunity

UPDATE!!!

Mr. Rooney has officially decided to participate in the App Challenge. Thank you all for your help!

Hey Hunter, what's the simplest way to get in touch with Rooney's office?

Hello!

We found the best way is to call is either his local office and/or his office in D.C

Local number: (239) 599-6033
D.C number: (202) 225-2536

We just got the call that Rooney has a firm stance on not participating.

Purely out of curiousity, did he say why he has a firm stance on not participating? Some political/financial reason? Just seems odd to be firmly against something that doesn't seem to have an obvious downside.

Disclaimer: I'm on the other side of the world, I don't know about the ins-and-outs of state politics in America nor do I know anything about that specific representative.

The only thing we can think of is backdoor politics. Outside of that, we got nothing

I'm sorry I can't help you (even though I'm part of the "whole community"... cough). It sounds like a really cool competition and I hope you get to take part.
