How Oracle Cloud has enhanced the English Premier League

Premier League and Oracle Logo

My love for football knows no bounds! Been watching it for the best part of 30 years and since my early teenage years I always found the data the game produces were vast and not being utilised fully. So when I heard Oracle Cloud joining forces with the English Premier League, I was very intrigued to see what could be.

Oracle Cloud has been a game-changer in the English Premier League (EPL), delivering new levels of performance and insight to one of the world's most popular and competitive sports league. Since becoming the official cloud provider for the EPL in 2020, Oracle Cloud has worked closely with the league to develop a range of cutting-edge technologies and solutions that have transformed the way that teams prepare for and compete in matches.

Here are some of the ways that I believe Oracle Cloud has enhanced the EPL:

Player Performance Analysis:

Oracle Cloud has developed a range of data analytics tools that enable teams to analyze player performance in real-time, using data from sensors and cameras to track everything from heart rate and distance covered to passing accuracy and shot speed. This data is then analyzed using machine learning algorithms to identify patterns and insights that can be used to optimize training and improve performance.

Average position: Tracks the position of all the players in and out of possession and highlights the different ways teams/players organise themselves when attacking and defending.

Fan Engagement:

Oracle has also been working to enhance the experience of EPL fans, both in stadiums and at home. For example, Oracle has developed a range of digital experiences, including an interactive app that allows fans to track the performance of their favorite players and teams in real-time. Oracle has also introduced new ways for fans to interact with the league, such as the EPL Match Centre, which provides viewers with real-time analysis of match data and statistics.

Oracle Cloud was the obvious choice for Premier League to be able to give fans worldwide a game-changing new experience.

Broadcast Production:

Oracle has helped to revolutionize the production of EPL broadcasts, using its cloud infrastructure to deliver live match footage and analysis to viewers around the world. Oracle Cloud has developed a range of cloud-based tools and solutions that enable broadcasters to process, store, and distribute vast amounts of video data, delivering high-quality content to viewers on any device, anywhere in the world.

Referee Decision-Making:

Oracle has also introduced new technology to help referees make more accurate decisions during matches. For example, Oracle Cloud has developed a VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system that enables referees to review contentious decisions using multiple camera angles and advanced machine learning algorithms, reducing the risk of errors and improving the fairness of matches.

VAR- Checking Goal!

It's evident that Oracle Cloud has brought a range of innovative technologies and solutions to the EPL, enhancing the performance of teams and players, improving the fan experience, and promoting fair play. By leveraging the power of data analytics, machine learning, and the cloud, Oracle Cloud has helped the EPL to push the boundaries of what is possible and deliver new levels of excitement and engagement for fans around the world. As the EPL continues to evolve and grow, it is clear that Oracle Cloud will play a central role in shaping the future of this dynamic and ever-changing sport and I'll be here to witness further enhancements.
