🎙️ Get the speed right with arithmetic, not guesswork
The commonest teleprompter failure is scrolling at a speed that doesn't match your natural delivery, which makes you either race or stall. You can calculate it instead.
Comfortable spoken delivery is roughly 130–150 words per minute. Below 120 sounds sluggish; above 170 loses your audience.

Working backwards: need a 60-second video? Write about 140 words. Not 300. This one calculation saves more re-shoots than any other piece of advice on this page.
💡 Tip
Read your script aloud once at natural pace and time it, then set the scroll speed to match your rate rather than an average. Some people are comfortable at 120, some at 165. Tune it to yourself and the delivery stops sounding read.
Mirror mode: what it's actually for
A professional teleprompter is a beam splitter — a sheet of half-silvered glass at 45° in front of the lens. You see the reflected text; the camera looks straight through. Because the image is reflected, the text must be flipped horizontally before it hits the glass, or you'd be reading it backwards.
That's what mirror mode does. If you're just reading off a laptop next to the camera, leave it off — flipping text you're reading directly is the mistake that wastes ten minutes at the start of a shoot.
