I learnt about the HNG internship two weeks to concluding my bachelor’s degree from a friend. He sent me a link to register and told me to follow HNG Internship on Twitter. I went on Twitter, followed and learnt more about the internship by visiting any of the following links: https://zuri.team or https://internship.zuri.team or https://training.zuri.team .
I had started learning about programming from W3schools and Youtube during Covid-19 lockdown last year. Youtube tutorials were more profound in my journey because I learn more visually.
The HTML course from Brad Traversy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB1O30fR-EE was very fundamental to my journey, after that I moved to a Python course by Freecodecamp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfscVS0vtbw from which I learnt some programming concepts and figured out If I had to create projects which was imperative and share online I needed to know how to use Git. I then had to learn Git through a crash course which lasted for 33mins which can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWYqp7iY_Tc . Some other languages such as Go can be found on https://www.educative.io/blog/golang-tutorial Flutter https://youtube.com/watch?v=o2cMPSvPpe0&list=PLL0ge2kqpi3x5Vq5dLxTN38IQbmVusV7Y&index=1 PHP https://youtube.com/watch?v=YoKpIEIxDLw&list=PLL0ge2KQPI3XA5ed7_Y61EO0pHq1RJUYI&index=1 .
As I progressed in my web development journey I figured out I was more inclined to the backend side, which was more of the server side of Software Engineering. The front-end and back-end were important in creating a great website but what spoke more for a first timer visiting a site was the user interface, I figured out a good website had to have a very good layout which was the job of the UI/UX designer and the front end programmer. Also if I ever wanted to go the designing route I could use Figma tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q3FV65rUs on learn with HNG channel on Youtube.
From Youtube videos of successful finalist I have watched, I can say the HNG internship strongly aligns with my goals. Some of which are:
- Build a strong network of likeminded people who are driven, lifelong learners, problem solvers and who believe they can cause a change in the world using disruptive technologies.
- To gain from the wealth of experience of mentors to fast track my learning journey.
- To have access to resources that may not be easily accessed on the internet.
- To move from an intermediate level to an advanced level by tackling reall live projects.
- To be able to broaden my stack and be confident using certain languages and frameworks.
All of these and even more are what I believe the HNG internship has to offer. My stack includes Java, Python – Django framework, and Sql.
