PartnerStack rejected me. So did Impact. Then I found the category nobody talks about.

PartnerStack rejected my application. Impact rejected it too. For a while I treated that as a wall: no network approval, no monetization, full stop.

It isn't. Here's the distinction I was missing.

Two kinds of affiliate programs

Gated ones — the big networks. They review your site, sometimes require traffic minimums, and can say no. Good programs, but you're asking permission.

Ungated ones — companies that run their own affiliate program in-house, where registering an account is the enrollment. No application, no review, no waiting. You sign up, you get a link.

I'd been applying exclusively to the first category because those are the ones everyone talks about.

What happened when I looked at the second category

Within a day I had two live programs:

  • One paying 60% lifetime recurring commission on subscriptions
  • One paying 35% lifetime recurring on SEO tool subscriptions

No approval step in either case. The catch — and there is one — is that "lifetime" only means something if the person you referred keeps paying. A $27/month subscriber, referred once, pays you roughly $16 every month for as long as they stay. That's a different business from a one-time bounty, and it's slower to build.

The part that actually matters

The rejection wasn't the problem. Treating rejection as the end of the road was. I spent weeks waiting on two networks while an entirely separate category of programs needed nothing from me but an email address.

If you're building a niche site and stuck on monetization: before you wait on another approval, check whether the tools you're already writing about run their own in-house program. Most SaaS companies' affiliate links are in the footer. I'd been linking to those products for months without ever checking.
