Thank you for sharing your experience. While the original Mandirva is gone, there are few derivatives that are carrying on the legacy.

From Mandriva Wikipedia page the following derivatives exist:

  • OpenMandriva Lx - a continuation of Mandriva by the community
  • Mageia - a fork of Mandriva by the former laid off developers
  • PCLinuxOS - initially derived from Mandrake
  • ROSA Linux - a fork of Mandriva by the former laid off developers

While doing research on Mageia I found the below Wikipedia post

Mageia was created in 2010 as a fork of Mandriva Linux, by a group of former employees of Mandriva S.A. and several other members of the Mandriva community.

I have plans to explore PCLinuxOS & OpenMandirva in future. Knowing how these distributions were created and have evolved over time is very insightful and interesting.

While I have been using Linux for past 18 Years, this is the first time I have started seriously exploring various distros and writing about them.
