I’m Building a “Drop-In Voice” App for Talking to Strangers Here’s Why

A few weeks ago, I realized something strange.

Outside of games, it’s actually hard to just… talk to people in voice. Discord is great, but you need servers, invites, and friend lists. Most “stranger chat” sites are video-first and have the same safety issues we’ve all seen.

So I started tinkering with an idea:

What if there was a button you could click, and instantly be in a 1-on-1 voice chat with someone random? No video. No big public rooms. No managing communities.

That became Whisperly.

Right now, it’s:

Voice-only

1-on-1 random matches (small group rooms coming)

No sign-up required in beta

I’m aiming for a safe, frictionless way to meet new people, practice languages, or just talk when bored.

It’s live in early beta here:

Curious if Discord had this feature built-in, would you use it?

Any feedback from the DEV community on improving onboarding and safety features is super welcome.
