Best CS2 Graphics Settings for Performance and Visibility

Counter-Strike 2 moved from Source engine to Unreal Engine 5's Strand-Based Hair... just kidding — it runs on Source 2, and it is significantly more demanding than CS:GO. Getting settings right is important both for frame rate and for competitive visibility.

Launch Options

In Steam, right-click CS2 → Properties → Launch Options:

-fullscreen -high -nojoy
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

-fullscreen forces true fullscreen. -high sets process priority to High. -nojoy disables joystick polling.

Video Settings

Display Mode — Fullscreen.

Resolution — This is personal. Many competitive players use 1280x960 (4:3 stretched) for wider player models. Native 1080p or 1440p is fine if you prefer accuracy to feel.

Refresh Rate — Maximum available.

Boost Player ContrastEnabled. This is one of the most important settings for visibility — it increases contrast around player models against backgrounds. Always on.

Wait for Vertical Sync — Disabled.

Multisampling Anti-Aliasing — 4X MSAA. CS2 is less demanding than most games at this setting and the visual improvement is worth it.

Global Shadow Quality — Medium. High has a visible performance cost with minimal gameplay benefit.

Model / Texture Detail — Medium.

Shader Detail — Low.

Particle Detail — Low. Smoke grenades and fire effects are cleaner at Low in some scenarios.

Ambient Occlusion — Disabled. A consistent 5–10% FPS improvement with no gameplay impact.

High Dynamic Range — Performance.

FidelityFX Super Resolution — Disabled if you are at native resolution. Use Quality mode if you need to recover frames at higher resolutions.

What Matters Most for Competitive Play

Boost Player Contrast on — biggest single visibility improvement in the game settings.

Ambient Occlusion off — consistent FPS gain.

True fullscreen — reduces input lag versus windowed fullscreen.

Monitor Settings

Digital Vibrance at 65–75% in Nvidia Control Panel makes enemies stand out more clearly against environments. AMD users have a similar Saturation setting in Radeon Software.

For community monitor presets tuned for competitive FPS, BestSettingsFor.com has user-submitted settings filtered by Gaming and Work purposes across hundreds of monitor models.
