Best Elden Ring Graphics Settings for PC — Performance and Quality

Elden Ring has a notoriously inconsistent PC port that struggles with frame rate in open-world areas regardless of hardware. These settings help you get the most stable performance while keeping the game's dark, atmospheric look intact.

Display Settings

Display Mode — Fullscreen Exclusive.

Resolution — Native.

Frame Rate — The game's internal cap options are 30, 60, or Unlimited. Set to 60 unless you are on a high-refresh monitor and have confirmed stable frames. Unlimited can cause physics and animation issues at very high frame rates.

Note on 60 FPS cap: Elden Ring's engine has issues at framerates above 60 that affect water physics and some hitboxes. If you use a frame unlock mod, these are known side effects.

Graphics Settings

Setting Recommended
Ray Tracing Off — significant performance cost for minimal visual gain in Elden Ring
DLSS/FSR Quality or Balanced — effective in Elden Ring with few artifacts
Texture Quality High
Antialiasing Quality High
SSAO Medium
Depth of Field Off (personal preference; also frees up GPU)
Motion Blur Off
Shadow Quality Medium
Lighting Quality High
Effects Quality High
Vegetation Quality Medium
Volumetric Quality Medium
Reflection Quality Medium
Water Surface Quality Medium
Shader Quality High
Global Illumination High

The Open World Performance Problem

Elden Ring drops frames in open-world areas even on top-end hardware. This is an engine optimization issue, not a settings problem. Reducing Shadow Quality and Volumetric Quality helps most here.

Monitor Settings for Elden Ring

Elden Ring is a dark, atmospheric game. The game's own brightness slider (in accessibility settings) should be used first.

  • Gamma — Set per the in-game calibration prompt on first launch
  • Monitor Brightness — Do not raise to compensate for dark areas. The art direction is intentionally dark in many dungeons
  • Black Equalizer / Shadow Boost — A slight lift (2–3 on a 0–10 scale) can help spot enemies in caves and catacombs without breaking the atmosphere
  • Color Temperature — Neutral 6500K. Elden Ring uses a desaturated, cinematic palette
