Stop Guessing Your Etsy Profit — Here's the Math
Every Etsy seller knows the pain: you price your item at $25, think you're making $15 profit, then Etsy takes its cut and you're left wondering where your margin went.
The problem? Etsy has 4 separate fees that stack:
- Listing fee: $0.20 per item
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of sale price
- Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 per transaction
- Offsite ads: 12% or 15% if you're opted in
Most sellers only account for the first two. That's how you lose money.
The Solution
I built a free Google Sheets template that calculates all fees automatically. Just enter your sale price and cost of goods, and it shows you:
- Exact dollar amount for each Etsy fee
- Total fees as a lump sum
- Your net profit (real take-home)
- Profit margin percentage
- Break-even price to cover everything
Do the Math Yourself
Let's use a real example. Say you sell a $25 item costing $8 to make:
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee (6.5%) | $1.63 |
| Payment processing (3% + $0.25) | $1.00 |
| Offsite ads (0% here) | $0.00 |
| Total fees | $2.83 |
| Net profit | $14.17 |
Without this calculator, you might think you're making $17 profit ($25 - $8). The real number is $14.17 — nearly $3 less!

I've published the template on Gumroad as a free download (no email required). It's a single Google Sheet with all formulas pre-built. You can copy it and start using it in 2 minutes.

No strings attached. I share tools because pricing correctly is the difference between a hobby and a real business.
P.S. If you sell on other marketplaces, the same principle applies — adapt the fee percentages and you're good to go.
