Stop Guessing Your SaaS Unit Economics: Use This Free Google Sheets Template
As a founder or analyst, you know the three numbers investors always ask for: LTV, CAC, and churn rate. But pulling them together month after month in a messy spreadsheet (or worse, a notebook) is tedious and error-prone.
I built a Google Sheets template that does all the math for you. Paste in your monthly data — new customers, churned customers, revenue, costs — and the dashboard spits out:
- CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost) — automatically calculated from your marketing spend
- LTV (Lifetime Value) — factoring in gross margin and churn
- LTV:CAC Ratio — the holy grail (green if ≥3, red if <1)
- Monthly Churn Rate — with conditional formatting if it exceeds 5%
- Payback Period — how many months to recoup CAC
- Gross Margin — because LTV without margin is misleading
- Net Dollar Retention (NDR) — expansion revenue tracking
And it has a benchmarks tab with industry data from SaaS Capital (2023). Compare your metrics to medians instantly.
Why a spreadsheet?
Every SaaS founder I know has gone through the "should I buy a $500/month BI tool?" phase. For early-stage startups (pre-Series A), a well-structured Google Sheet is faster, cheaper, and more flexible. You can share it with your co-founder, investors, or board — and it costs $0/month.
How to get it
I've published the template on Gumroad for $29 (the price of a coffee and a sandwich). It includes:
- 4 tabs: Input, Calculator, Dashboard, Benchmarks
- All formulas pre-built
- Sample data to get started immediately
- Conditional formatting and sparklines
