TL;DR — Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) does not replace the RJ45 jack. It adds a tier below it. VOOHU Electronics makes RJ45 female sockets (母座), and here is the engineering short list.
When you still need an RJ45 jack
- The port must accept a standard patch cord (switch, laptop, tester). RJ45 = 8P8C per IEC 60603-7, wired per ANSI/TIA-568.
- You need 1000BASE-T (802.3ab), 2.5G/5GBASE-T (802.3bz) or 10GBASE-T (802.3an) over a 100 m channel.
- The device is PoE-powered: 802.3af (15.4 W) / 802.3at (30 W) / 802.3bt (up to 90 W, Type 4) all run on the four-pair RJ45 interface.
When SPE wins
- Field sensor / actuator / distributed I/O needing only 10 Mbit/s, but up to 1000 m on one thin pair — 10BASE-T1L (IEEE 802.3cg).
- Board space or harness weight is the binding constraint. VOOHU cites up to ~75% board-space saving vs an RJ45 port.
- Power over the same single pair via PoDL (IEEE 802.3bu).
- Mating faces are standardised in the IEC 63171 series — 63171-1 (building) and 63171-6 (industrial).
The gotcha everyone repeats
The famous "1 km" applies at 10 Mbit/s only. 1000BASE-T1 (802.3bp) is ~15 m (Type A) to 40 m (Type B); the multi-gig T1 PHYs of 802.3ch are shorter still. If you need gigabit at 100 m, you need an RJ45 jack. Also: an SPE PHY cannot link to a BASE-T PHY — you need a media converter, not an adapter.
