BYD Revolutionizes EV Charging with 1000-kW Supercharger, Leaving Tesla Behind
BYD has unveiled a game-changing 1000-kW charging platform, slashing EV charging times to just five minutes for a 249-mile (400 km) range—twice as fast as Tesla’s latest 500-kW superchargers. This breakthrough, debuting in the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, aims to make charging as quick as refueling a gasoline car, tackling one of the biggest EV adoption barriers.
To support this innovation, BYD plans to install 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across China, solidifying its dominance in the global EV market. With 4.2 million cars sold in 2024 and ambitions to reach 5–6 million next year, BYD is rapidly emerging as a global automotive powerhouse. However, expansion into the U.S. remains uncertain due to a looming 25% tariff.
As competition with Tesla intensifies, BYD’s aggressive push into faster charging and expanded infrastructure could reshape the EV industry, making electric cars more practical and accessible than ever before.
