Disable hotspot Windows 11 registry Method

In the previous tutorial, i have shared how to enable Mobile hotspot Windows 11 using Registry and in this tutorial, I've shared how to disable it using the same registry method. Windows 11 includes a Mobile Hotspot feature that allows users to share their internet connection with other devices. If you want to disable this feature entirely, you can do so using the Windows Registry. You can enable the mobile hotspot feature back again in windows 11 using gui methods mentioned in the tutorial.

Important Notes Before Proceeding

  • Editing the Windows Registry incorrectly can cause system issues. Always back up your registry before making changes.
  • Administrator privileges are required to modify registry settings.

Step 1: Open the Registry Editor

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type regedit and press Enter.
  • If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to allow access.

Step 2: Navigate to the Mobile Hotspot Registry Key

  • In the Registry Editor, use the left pane to go to the following path:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Connectivity\AllowTethering
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode
  • If you do not see the AllowTethering key, you will need to create it.

Step 3: Create or Modify the Registry Value

  • In the right pane of the AllowTethering key, look for a DWORD (32-bit) Value named value.
  • If the value entry does not exist:
    • Right-click on the right pane.
    • Select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
    • Name it value.
  • Double-click the value entry and set the Value data to 0.
  • Click OK to save the changes.

Step 4: Close the Registry Editor and Restart the Computer

  • Close the Registry Editor.
  • Restart your computer to apply the changes.

Step 5: Verify That Mobile Hotspot Is Disabled

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Navigate to Network & internet > Mobile hotspot.
  • The Mobile Hotspot option should now be grayed out and unavailable.

How to Re-enable Mobile Hotspot Using the Registry

  • Follow Steps 1 and 2 to open the Registry Editor and navigate to the AllowTethering key.
  • Double-click the value entry and change the Value data to 1.
  • Click OK, close the Registry Editor, and restart your computer.

Final Thoughts

  • Disabling Mobile Hotspot using the Windows Registry ensures that users cannot enable it through the Settings app.
  • This method is useful for system administrators who want to prevent internet sharing on corporate or personal computers.
  • If you need to restore the Mobile Hotspot functionality, simply change the registry value back to 1.
