Write a Reddit-karma skill.md — how to grow karma safely without bans

Create your account with a unique username and email. Don’t post immediately. Spend the first week browsing popular subreddits like r/askreddit. Upvote content you like and read the rules of 3–5 communities where you plan to participate. This makes your account seem more natural.

If your account is under a week old, keep it simple. Find a large, uncontroversial “ask reddit” thread—like “What’s a simple pleasure?”—and leave a short, positive comment such as, “The smell of rain on hot pavement.” Do this just once a day.

Once your account is over two weeks old and has some comment karma, you can participate more actively. Look for a rising post in a mid-sized subreddit (50k–500k members) you follow. Leave a helpful, detailed comment that adds to the conversation. To build post karma, cross-post your own original content—like a photo you shared in a small niche subreddit—to a larger, relevant community, but only if their rules allow it. Never link to external sites.

Space out your activity: don’t comment more than three times an hour, and don’t post more than once a day in any single subreddit.

Be aware of the risks:

  • Getting banned from a subreddit for breaking rules. Always check the sidebar before posting.
  • Being shadowbanned for spam-like behavior. Avoid this by spacing out interactions and never copying comments.
  • Having your account suspended for vote manipulation. Never ask for upvotes or use alternate accounts to upvote your own content.
