Data science is broad and interesting field with many different applications. Especially, I find fascinating that data science uses a lot of tools from different disciplines and sub-disciplines, like AI, Machine learning, Math, Statistics, Deep Learning, Computer Science and others and how all these harmonically connected together. From what we can see now, data driven decisions are used almost in all industries. Potentially, we can expect that more and more ML/AI driven solutions will be used by experts or users in different domains. Of course, there is a whole another topic of the development of these technologies and how they can be used to help in solving challenges in various industries.
How I can add a value applying Data Science?
My background is in mechanical engineering, and working for quite some time as an engineer, I realized that I could add more value to a company if I combine my experience and passion to the technologies. I started with learning Python and solving some code challenges using online learning platforms. As well, I started to learn about supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, and I liked applied concept and elegance of the math behind it.
Problem solving is fun!
Another thing that I liked in the data science, that it involves problem solving. For me personally, problem solving is fun. I think I understood that I truly love solving analytical problems when I was in high school. I still remember I was participating in my first physics olympiad, I had no experience at solving tasks at that level and was struggling with solving one of the problem. After thinking for a while, I got ‘aha moment’ and I understood how to model and describe that phenomena using the law of energy conservation. I think from this point onwards, I was able to participate quite successfully at physics olympiad in the high school. So, the lesson I got for myself, that we also can learn by challenging ourselves in a positive way. Now, back to the learning the data science … I just started my journey exploring it, and I want to start with the basics. As I believe that experimenting and applying the foundations and finding your own insights is going to give confidence and motivation to continue learning in the long run.
