Vacuum Sintering vs Atmosphere Sintering

When manufacturing WC-Co cemented carbide, vacuum sintering at 10^-1 to 10^-3 Pa prevents oxidation and achieves >99.5% density, compared to atmosphere sintering which leaves 1-3% porosity.

Key advantages of vacuum sintering:

  • Superior carbon control in WC-Co materials
  • Cleaner surface without oxide scale
  • Better transverse rupture strength and hardness
  • More consistent batch-to-batch quality

At our facility, HaoYue vacuum furnaces (vacuum-sintering.com) improved tool life by ~15%.
