What Do You Drink While You Work?

I wrote a fiction series with six characters. Each one drinks a different coffee. I didn't plan it that way. But somewhere around the tenth story,...

Daily intake

  • detox warm lemon water when I wake up
  • a lot of water the whole day
  • 1 cup of green tea mixed with mint & honey for freshness
  • 2 cups of milk tea. Sugar free most of the time, sometimes half a tea spoon of sugar

Weekly intake

  • 1 electrolyte drink 5 or 6 days of the week. 2 drinks if I feel too exhausted. 1 or 2 days break.

Used to take coffee, but not any more. Coffee makes me too much dehydrated.

Depends on the time of day:

  • Morning: Lungo

With the amount of coffee I drink, if I added sugar to every cup, I'd get really fat 🤣🤣🤣

Just curious, is Apple-C Americano still coffee? 😅🤣

xulingfeng, this character breakdown through coffee choices is brilliant! 😂 i can totally see how each drink matches their personality.

as for me? i'm the fresh R.O. water guy. 💧

while everyone's fueling on espresso shots and oat milk lattes, i'm over here with the purest, cheapest, most constraint-driven hydration possible. no caffeine jitters, no sugar crashes, just 100% clear-headed coding on a $150 phone.

plus, it's basically free and keeps my brain sharp for debugging at 2am. 😅

if my work style was a drink, it'd definitely be ice-cold R.O. water: minimalist, efficient, and gets the job done without any unnecessary bloat. 🐯

what about the rest of the community? anyone else team water, or are you all on the caffeine train?

Wow! Have you not tried other drinks? I strongly suggest you look up Wahaha, a classic Chinese drink brand. Also, you’re still up at 2 AM! Staying up late is bad for young folks who are still developing, so try to get some sleep earlier 😂

haha, noted on the wahaha! i will definitely check it out, always love discovering new classic drinks. 😂

and you caught me—2 am coding sessions are a dangerous habit i am actively trying to break! my mom would agree with you 100%.

also, great catch on the sign-in flow! you are absolutely right. guest mode has strict, hidden limits, and the moment a user tries to push past them (or use advanced features like saving to the library), the app gracefully triggers the sign-in wall. it’s a deliberate design choice to protect the api budget and convert curious visitors into registered users.

thanks for keeping me honest and testing the app so thoroughly! 💧🐯

@technogamerz summoned me, so here I am. 👑

Confession first, in a post about coffee: I don't drink it. Never really have. I suspect it's how I react to caffeine, though these days I won't touch decaf either, so it might just be the taste. Plain water and green tea do me fine.

The Nigerian answer is zobo. Dried hibiscus petals boiled with ginger, cloves, and pineapple skin, then left to steep for hours and chilled. Deep red, properly tart, and it takes long enough to make that you have to want it genuinely. Nothing else I drink tastes anything like it.

One translation note for this thread, since tea keeps coming up. Ask for tea in a Nigerian house, and there's a fair chance you'll be handed Milo. Tea at home means any hot drink in a mug, and chocolate malt is the house favourite. I was well into my twenties before I understood why that confused people elsewhere.

And work style as a drink: a mug of green tea I make, forget about, reheat, forget about again, and eventually drink cold while reading documentation. Which, now that I write it down, explains a great deal about my posting schedule. 😄

xulingfeng profile image
xulingfeng •

Yep! Speaking of tea, I feel proud. Tea culture started in China with tons of varieties like West Lake Longjing, Tieguanyin and Pu'er and more more more.😆
I highly recommend aged ripe Pu'er. Mine has fermented for almost 20 years! It boosts energy, calms you down and helps with skin maintenance, great for anyone🤭
I really appreciate this Nigerian drink trivia. Only locals know these little details!👏

师父, twenty years. That's older than some of the infrastructure I've been asked to support, and it's clearly been looked after a great deal better. 😄

What you've recommended is the exact opposite of what I drink, from the same plant. Green tea gets heated early precisely to stop it changing, 杀青, kill the green. Ripe Pu'er, from my little research, has to be fermented for decades. That's fascinating!

I'd never thought about it that way.

If I ever make it to China, I'm finding the Pu'er. 受教了. 🙏

Ahh please don’t call me "师父"! 🤣We’re all friends here 😂 Don’t use that title next time, I really don’t deserve it.
You’re right though. They come from the same tea plant, yet different processing methods create totally different results. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, fermented tea like Pu’er is healthier than green tea. Pu’er nourishes your body and energy. Green tea gives you a mental boost, but it consumes your body’s stored energy to achieve that effect. It works much like coffee: it perks you up, but there is a cost to it.

This is the thing I like most about you, and you're not going to enjoy hearing it. 🤣 The humility is real. I respect you for that.

But alright, friends, it is. 朋友.

I'll try to drop the title. I won't promise there'll be no slips, because every time you explain something like this, the urge comes straight back.

I've spent years avoiding coffee, running the same arrangement with green tea. Cold, reheated twice; sometimes I forget about the tea while reading documentation. 😄

So the Pu'er sounds more like a healthier option. 🙏
