As I sit down to write this on January 1st, 2025, I find myself reflecting on the three years I’ve spent at my current company. When I joined, I was filled with big dreams—dreams of buying a new car, traveling freely, and building a life that balanced remote work with my passion for coding. For a long time, those dreams fueled my motivation and drive, even during challenging times like the financial struggles our company faced ten months ago. Together, we pushed through, and that shared resilience gave me a renewed sense of purpose.
However, the last few months have been different. With new rules for remote work piling up and my salary remaining stagnant for two years amidst rising inflation in my country, I find myself struggling financially and emotionally. Coding, the one thing that always brought me joy and gratitude, now feels like it’s slipping away from me.
Today, the blow felt heavier: a 30% deduction from my salary because I fell short by just 8 hours of the expected monthly quota. It’s a bitter pill to swallow.
Have you ever been in a similar place—where the passion that once drove you starts to dim under the weight of external pressures? How did you navigate those feelings, and what steps did you take to reignite your sense of purpose?
I’d love to hear your stories. Sometimes, knowing others have faced similar struggles and come out stronger can be the most comforting thing of all.
