Dynamic remarketing shows previous visitors ads featuring the specific products they viewed.
For e-commerce, it is one of the highest-ROAS campaign types available.
How Dynamic Remarketing Works
You install the Google tag with product ID parameters. When a user views a product,
the tag captures the product ID. Google matches it to your Merchant Center feed
and builds a personalized ad showing that exact product with current price and image.
No manual ad creation per product. The system generates ads dynamically from your feed.
Audience Segments to Build
Product viewers (viewed but did not add to cart):
These users showed interest. Show them the product they viewed plus similar items.
Bid modifier: Standard.
Cart abandoners (added to cart but did not purchase):
Highest intent segment. Show them the abandoned product plus a reminder.
Bid modifier: +30-50% above product viewer baseline.
Past purchasers (purchased in the last 90 days):
Cross-sell and upsell opportunity. Show complementary products.
Bid modifier: +20-30%.
Feed Requirements
Your Merchant Center feed must be:
- Updated daily (hourly for high-volume stores)
- Including accurate price, availability, and product images
- Free of disapproved items (disapproved products cannot be served in dynamic ads)
Frequency Cap
Dynamic remarketing without frequency caps leads to ad fatigue fast.
Set a frequency cap of 5-7 impressions per user per week for cart abandoners.
Lower (3-5) for past purchasers who already converted.
