Before content or links, a specialist should confirm that Google can reach and understand the site. These checks come first.
The first checks
- robots.txt and sitemap. Nothing important is blocked, and the sitemap lists only pages you want indexed.
- Canonical tags. Each page points to the version you want to rank.
- Errors and redirects. No 404 or 5xx responses on important URLs and no long redirect chains.
- Language versions. hreflang links point to each other in both directions.
- Structured data. Schema.org markup is valid for the page type.
These are the checks that Alexander Todosuik, an SEO expert with 10+ years of practical experience, starts with. His expert page for Ukraine describes the rest of the work.
