The exporter’s ability to produce these documents cleanly and quickly is a reliable indicator of professionalism. Requesting references from prior shipments to comparable destinations—say, a dealer in Ghana or a mining company in Peru—can reveal patterns. A buyer should start with a small order—one or two units—to test the relationship before scaling up. The most successful importers in Lagos, Nairobi, Dubai, and Lima all follow this approach: verify the exporter’s capability, inspect the unit thoroughly, and secure documentation before wiring funds.
