FaceID@NIM (Neural Identity Matching), an experimental, open-source facial authentication system for Ubuntu/GNOME using Rust, C, and Python.
🔗 GitHub: https://github.com/Gaurav-x111/faceid-nim
What's inside?
- C-based PAM authentication module
- Rust daemon for authentication policies and template management
- Python face recognition and liveness detection
- GNOME integration and GTK4 settings app
- Audit logging and password fallback
The main challenge
I'm focusing on secure failure handling: daemon crashes, camera failures, liveness timeouts, and ensuring errors never result in successful authentication.
🚧 Status: Pre-alpha, experimental, and not production-ready.
I'd appreciate feedback from the Linux community, especially on PAM architecture, security weaknesses, and testing priorities.
What failure cases would you test first?
