I Fixed My Dream Journal App's Startup Freeze — DreamWise v1.0.2 Is Out
I build free Android apps, and one of them — DreamWise, a dream journal with a symbol dictionary — had an embarrassing bug: on some phones it froze on the splash screen and never opened.
What was wrong
The app scheduled its daily dream reminder before the UI even loaded. On Android 13+, requesting the exact-alarm permission opens a system screen whose result never comes back to the app — so the startup code waited forever and the app never got past the logo.
The fix (v1.0.2)
- The UI now launches first, always
- Reminder scheduling moved to the background with a 10-second timeout — if it fails, it fails silently instead of freezing the app
- No permission is requested at startup anymore; it's asked only when the user actually sets a reminder
- Exact alarms replaced with inexact scheduling (no special permission needed)
What DreamWise does
- 📓 Fast dream journal with moods and tags
- 📖 500+ dream symbol dictionary
- ✨ Zodiac dream profile
- 📊 Dream stats and patterns
- ⏰ Optional bedtime reminders
- 🔒 Everything stays on your device — private by design
