I am a school teacher from Pakistan, not a software engineer. I build free tools with AI assistance. Vidsay is a Loom-style screen recorder that runs entirely in your browser: screen, webcam and mic, recorded at 720p, saved as a .webm download.
Try it: https://vidsay.pages.dev/
Code: https://github.com/zhbhaider-coder/vidsay
What it does
Hit record, pick your screen (or window, or tab), optionally add webcam and mic, and stop whenever. The video downloads as .webm. Your recordings live in a library in the browser (IndexedDB), and it works on mobile too — the mobile mode records from your camera. The free tier covers 25 videos up to 5 minutes each.
Why it is free
The MediaRecorder API does the heavy lifting in the browser. There is no server, no upload, no account — the page is static on Cloudflare Pages. Your videos never leave your device, which is also the privacy story: nothing to leak because nothing is sent anywhere.
What it honestly cannot do
Download-only sharing. Loom's magic is pasting a link and having someone watch instantly — that needs servers and storage, and this tool has neither. If you need link sharing, this is not it. It is unofficial and not affiliated with Loom. And a practical note: .webm playback varies on phones, so test on your device before recording something important.
Someone on Reddit made exactly this point about the download trade-off, and they were right — it is the one real limitation, and it comes from the same decision that makes it free and private.
How it is built
getDisplayMedia + getUserMedia for capture, MediaRecorder for encoding, IndexedDB for the library. No backend, no tracking, no accounts.
What is next
Phone playback testing, and honestly answering what a Pro tier would even add — the pricing page lists one, and it is not spelled out clearly enough yet. If you record with it, tell me where it stutters. That is how the last tools got better.
