If you're building with AI:
Constraints are formal systems, not just UX decisions. Your token limits, your system prompts, your context windows — these define the axiom set your model is working within. The incompleteness of that system determines what kinds of truths can and cannot emerge.
Operator identity persists across model switches. When you fine-tune, change providers, or update base models, the axioms you've encoded in your prompts and system design are the continuity. Your operators write the formal system. The model is interchangeable.
Emergent concepts require time. Coastlines don't appear in conversation until exchange 35 because they require 34 exchanges worth of axiom accumulation. If you're evaluating AI conversations for emergence, you need patience and long contexts.
Incompleteness is not failure. Every individual AI response is incomplete — it cannot say everything true about the topic. That's fine. That's structurally necessary. Design for the system's incompleteness to drive interesting inference, not to eliminate it.
