GPT-6 Astra Pro upgrade brings parallel multi-agent teamwork and Chrome computer use to ChatGPT
OpenAI has rolled out a major upgrade to GPT-6 Astra Pro inside ChatGPT, enabling multiple AI agents to work on the same complex task in parallel while users track progress and review results directly in the chat interface. The company has also extended ChatGPT's computer-use capabilities into Chrome, letting the assistant operate web pages on a user's behalf. The updates are rolling out progressively to eligible Pro users.
Multi-Agent Teamwork Inside One Chat
The core change is parallel execution. A complex job handed to ChatGPT can now be split across several agents, each handling a separate piece of the work simultaneously. Users can follow each agent's progress inside the conversation, open completed subtasks individually, and inspect their outputs - planning, tracking, and review all connected through a single chat entry point.
The entry point is ChatGPT's Chat tab. According to OpenAI's help documentation, selecting GPT-6 with the Thinking slider set to Pro runs GPT-6 Pro powered by GPT-6 Astra, while the Instant, Medium, High, and Extra High tiers are driven by GPT-6 Sol. The rollout to team and enterprise accounts depends on administrator settings and push batches.
Faster Responses and Better Tool Use
OpenAI says the upgrade also delivers faster responses and improved plugin and tool usage, though it has not published specific numbers for speed gains or time savings. Tool improvements matter for completion rates: community feedback has flagged cases where plugins loop in place while consuming quota without making progress. External services still require users to connect accounts and complete authorization, with the AI operating only within granted permissions.
ChatGPT Comes to Chrome
In parallel, OpenAI has brought computer-use capabilities into Chrome. In Chat mode, the assistant can gather information across tabs - comparing products, software plans, or pricing. A Work mode, built on the Computer Use architecture, goes further: once authorized, ChatGPT can operate web pages to send messages, fill forms, and download files, consolidate multiple tabs into a comparison table, and organize tab groups. A sidebar keeps history and mode switching, with conversations synced to the ChatGPT client, and tasks can run inside sites where the user is already logged in.
Why It Matters
The updates sharpen OpenAI's push from a conversational assistant toward an orchestrated agent workforce, a direction competitors are also racing down. Enterprise research firm Menlo Ventures estimated enterprise generative AI spending at 37 billion dollars in 2025, roughly 3.2 times the prior year, and agent capabilities extending into complex, long-horizon workflows are expected to keep expanding that market. With parallel agents, progress tracking, and browser operation now wired into a single consumer product, the competition is shifting from raw model quality to how effectively AI teams are coordinated, monitored, and trusted.
