Hello Dev.to community! 👋
I've always been fascinated by the intersection of coding and creative writing.
We all know the feeling of staring at a blank page (or a blank IDE) and not knowing where to start. Tools like "The Most Dangerous Writing App" gamify the process by deleting your work if you stop typing, which is effective but stressful.
I wanted to build something different. Something that uses Visual Inspiration to kickstart the storytelling process.
So, I built Scribely (https://scribelydesigns.top).
🚀 The Concept: Visual-to-Text
The core idea is simple: Don't just write. Visualize first.
I created a specific tool called the AI Prompt Randomizer. It acts like a "slot machine" for ideas.
Instead of asking you to write "Chapter 1," it generates a highly detailed visual scene (optimized for Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, or the new Nano Banana model).
For example, it might generate:
"A cyberpunk samurai standing on a neon rooftop, raining, unreal engine 5 render, cinematic lighting..."
And here is the kicker: You can click a button to instantly turn that visual prompt into a story opening.
🛠️ The Stack
I built this using:
- Next.js for the frontend framework.
- Tailwind CSS for the dark-mode UI (inspired by IDEs).
- AI Integration to handle the "Visual-to-Text" logic.
🎮 The "Gamified" Funnel
I'm currently experimenting with a feature called "The Vanishing Idea".
The concept is that the generated prompt will vanish in 10 seconds if you don't "Capture" it or start writing. This adds a layer of scarcity that forces the user to make a decision and start creating, rather than endlessly scrolling.
🔗 Try it out
I'd love to get some feedback from other developers and writers here.

Questions for you:
- Do you find visual prompts helpful for coding/writing ideas?
- Any feedback on the UI/UX? I tried to keep it clean and distraction-free.
Thanks for checking it out! Happy coding (and writing)!
