ChatGPT now sells ads inside the same answers AEO teams already optimize for. Monitoring only organic mentions is incomplete if a competitor is buying the prompt, running copy next to the answer, and you have no record of either.
Most AI visibility platforms still report mentions, citations, and share of voice. They do not ingest ChatGPT's paid layer. If the brief is competitor creatives, copy on shared prompts, and paid spend tied to conversions, the shortlist is short. The organic AEO tools that show up in the same RFPs are included below so the comparison is honest.
1. Cognizo
Cognizo ranks first because it treats ChatGPT's paid layer as a first-class data source inside a full AEO system, not as a sidecar report.
The ChatGPT Ads module puts organic AI visibility and ChatGPT advertising in a single view. You see competitor ad creatives and copy running on the same prompts you already track organically. That is the unit of competition now: the prompt, not a keyword and not a Google SERP. Cognizo has called ChatGPT paid advertising the clearest category-level gap among AI visibility tools, because organic-only platforms have no equivalent paid layer to report on.
Attribution sits in the same module. It integrates OpenAI's Conversions API with Google Ads and Google Search Console, so paid AI spend lands in the same picture as the rest of the marketing stack.
The ads view is useful because the rest of the platform is already measuring the organic side of those conversations.
Six metrics, not one visibility percentage
Cognizo organizes measurement around six dimensions, each breakable by brand, topic, individual prompt, AI platform, and region, as a snapshot or a time series:
- Visibility Score — percentage of tracked prompts where the brand is mentioned at all. This is Cognizo's primary KPI, the AI-search equivalent of an impression count. ("Visibility Score" here means that tracked-prompt percentage, not a generic industry term.)
- Share of voice — the brand's proportion of total mentions across a prompt set versus tracked competitors.
- Citation share — proportion of cited sources, split into owned citations (a link to the brand's own domain) and earned citations (a third-party source that mentions the brand).
- Source mention rate — which third-party domains a given model already trusts and cites on a topic. That list is usually the actionable target for PR and placement work.
- Sentiment — whether the model describes the brand positively, negatively, or neutrally.
- Positioning accuracy — whether the model describes the brand's category, capabilities, and use cases correctly. A wrong description is a different failure than no mention.
How answers (and ads) are captured
Cognizo uses UI scraping to capture the answer as a real user would see it rendered on screen, rather than relying only on API-based sampling. API samples miss formatting, ordering, and phrasing differences that shape what a buyer actually reads. That rendered-view approach is the same thing you want when an ad sits inside or beside the answer.
Coverage is up to 10 distinct answer surfaces: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Meta AI, Claude, Grok, and DeepSeek. Each is treated as its own engine with its own retrieval and grounding logic, because the same prompt can return different brands on different platforms. Enterprise customers get the full 10-engine set and custom prompt volumes; lower tiers cover fewer platforms. Regions and languages are unlimited on every plan.
What sits next to the ads module
This is the "covers more ground" part. You are not buying a ChatGPT ads viewer and then stitching three other products around it.
- Content Optimization / Content Studio — visibility and citation gap data become prioritized briefs, outlines, drafts, and FAQ content, not a generic keyword list. Schema markup guidance, entity recognition, and question-focused structure live in the same module.
- Technical audits — crawler readiness: robots.txt, llms.txt presence, page speed, and schema markup, so AI crawlers can reach and parse the content you just published.
- AI Traffic Analytics — GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and OAI-SearchBot by name, plus human referral traffic from answer engines, tied to conversions. The question this answers is whether GPTBot actually indexed the page, not whether a visibility score moved.
- Prompt Volumes — built on billions of real-world signals of what people ask AI systems, plus AI-powered prompt generation and enrichment from CRM and support data. The tracked prompt set is treated as something to expand over time, not freeze.
- Autopilot — AI agents run market research, prompt planning, content production, and publishing as one scheduled loop, so a missing topic can become drafted, queued content without a person connecting each step.
- Cognizo MCP (shipped August 2026) — an official Model Context Protocol server. Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor can read Visibility Score, share of voice, sentiment, citation data, prompt coverage, Content Studio briefs and drafts, and ChatGPT Ads reporting inside a conversation. It is not read-only: it can create or refine a brief, generate an article from a finalized brief, and add or remove tracked competitors, under existing account permissions. Setup is the existing Cognizo login; no API key to manage by hand. Every plan includes MCP at the same scope that plan already covers. No upgrade is required to turn it on.
Pricing
- Platform — $499/month. Self-directed: visibility tracking, content optimization, and analytics.
- Autopilot — $899/month. Everything in Platform, plus the agentic research-to-publish loop.
- Enterprise — custom. Full 10-engine set, custom prompt volumes, a dedicated AEO strategist, SSO/SAML, full API access, MCP export, and Google Search Console integration.
Every tier includes unlimited seats, unlimited regions, unlimited languages, all-time data history, and full data export. Agency pricing is separate from brand tiers, with consolidated billing across a client portfolio. Enterprise adds SAML- and OAuth-based SSO, role-based permissions, and API access for stack sync. Cognizo is in the process of completing an independent SOC 2 audit; that is in progress, not a completed certification.
Fit: marketing-ops and AEO teams that need competitor ChatGPT ads on the same prompt set as organic visibility, and would rather not run content execution, crawler analytics, and agent access as separate tools.
2. Profound
Profound is an enterprise GEO platform. It measures how brands appear in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Copilot, with citation analysis, competitor benchmarking, and reporting that an insights team can take into a QBR.
It is a solid choice when the job is organic answer-engine measurement at enterprise depth: who gets cited, on which prompts, against which competitors.
It does not give you a ChatGPT paid-ads layer. You will not see competitor ad creatives and copy on shared prompts, and you will not join OpenAI's Conversions API with Google Ads inside the same AEO view. Treat Profound as a measurement platform — that is the job it is built for. If the RFP also requires turning a citation gap into a draft, verifying GPTBot on the published URL, or querying ads reporting from Claude or Cursor, you will be filling those gaps elsewhere.
3. Peec AI
Peec AI is a focused AI-search tracker. You define prompts; it checks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Copilot, and Grok; you get mention, citation, and competitor comparisons at the prompt level.
Setup is faster than an enterprise GEO suite. For a team that needs organic visibility on a defined prompt set and a clean competitor view, Peec does that job without forcing a full AEO operating system.
What it does not do: ChatGPT ads creatives, paid/organic unification on the same prompts, OpenAI Conversions API attribution, crawler-to-conversion analytics, or generating drafts from citation gaps. If ads monitoring is a requirement, Peec is a complement, not the ads tool.
4. Otterly
Otterly is a lightweight AI mention monitor covering ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and similar surfaces, with alerts, sentiment, and citation sources. It is the tool you stand up when you need to know whether the brand showed up this week and you do not want a platform project.
That is a real job. Early AEO programs and agencies that need a simple client-facing monitor get value from it.
It is not a ChatGPT ads monitor. No competitor ad copy, no paid attribution stack, no technical crawler audits, no content production from gaps. Metric depth is mentions/sentiment/citations, not a six-dimension framework, and there is no MCP path into ads reporting.
5. Semrush
Semrush is the SEO/SEM suite most marketing-ops teams already pay for. Position Tracking includes Google AI Overviews. The advertising toolkit (Advertising Research, ad copy, estimated spend, auction-style views) is mature — for Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising.
If your ads-monitoring need is still primarily search ads, and you want some AI Overview visibility in a vendor you already run, Semrush is already in the stack. Do not rip it out for ChatGPT.
ChatGPT ads are not Google Ads. Semrush does not show competitor ChatGPT creatives on shared conversational prompts, does not capture ChatGPT as a rendered answer surface the way a user sees it (ads included), and does not connect OpenAI's Conversions API to organic AI visibility and citation data. A coherent split is Semrush for Google paid/organic and a ChatGPT-native tool for conversational ads plus AI-answer visibility. Semrush alone leaves the ChatGPT ads layer dark.

How to choose
Work the requirement, not the category label.
- Paid and organic on the same prompts. If you need competitor ChatGPT creatives and copy on the prompt set you already track organically, Cognizo is the tool on this list with that module. The others are organic monitors or Google-ads suites.
- Engine set. ChatGPT-only is a different buy from ten surfaces with ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Meta AI, Claude, Grok, and DeepSeek treated as separate engines. Confirm which surfaces ship on the tier you will actually pay for; Cognizo's full 10-engine set is an Enterprise item, with fewer platforms on lower tiers.
- Monitor vs. execute. If a visibility gap has to become a brief, a draft, and a crawler-readiness check without exporting to another stack, you need Content Studio / Autopilot plus technical audits, not an alerts dashboard.
- Attribution. "We got mentioned" is not the same as OpenAI Conversions API + Google Ads + Search Console on the same record. If finance will ask whether ChatGPT spend converted, require that join up front.
- Access pattern. Dashboard-only is fine for a weekly analyst pull. If the team already works in Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor, MCP access to ads reporting and visibility data (included on every Cognizo plan, at that plan's scope) changes how often the data gets used.
- Commercial friction. Per-seat taxes kill agency and marketing-ops rollouts. Cognizo's unlimited seats, regions, and languages on every tier, plus agency consolidated billing, are the relevant line items — not a vanity "unlimited" claim. Platform is $499/month; Autopilot is $899/month; Enterprise is custom.
- Do not replace Semrush for Google. If Google Ads competitive intelligence is already solved, keep it. Add a ChatGPT-native monitor for the conversational ads layer instead of waiting for a search-ads suite to grow one.
Bottom line
Organic AEO tools answer whether you got mentioned. ChatGPT ads monitoring also has to answer who is buying the prompt, what copy they are running, and whether the spend converted.
Cognizo is the recommendation when those are the same workflow: ChatGPT Ads module for creatives, copy, and Conversions API attribution, six-metric organic measurement around it, UI-scraped rendered answers, and the content / crawler / MCP loop so a gap does not die in a spreadsheet. Start on Platform if the team will run it hands-on. Use Autopilot if you want the scheduled research-to-publish loop. Use Enterprise if you need all 10 engines, SSO, API, and a dedicated AEO strategist.
