DevTracr: A Tool to Track Yr Coding Activity and Progress.

I Built DevTracr: A Developer Learning and Activity Tracker

How do you keep track of what you're learning, what you're building, and the progress you're making as a developer?

That's the problem I wanted to explore when I started building DevTracr.

As developers, we work across different projects, experiment with new technologies, fix bugs, and learn new things every day. But it can be difficult to maintain a clear record of that progress over time.

I wanted to build something that could help developers connect their daily work with their long-term learning journey.

What is DevTracr?

DevTracr is a developer learning and activity tracker designed for people at different stages of their development journey — from beginners learning their first programming language to experienced engineers working on multiple projects.

The goal is to help developers keep track of their activities, learning progress, and development work in one place.

🛠️ What can you do with DevTracr?

1. Track your development activity

Keep a record of your coding sessions and development work so you can reflect on what you've been working on.

2. Connect your editor

DevTracr includes an extension for VS Code and Cursor, bringing the tracking experience closer to your development environment.

3. Connect your GitHub workflow

The project includes GitHub integration intended to help connect coding activity with repository activity and development progress.

4. Maintain a record of your learning journey

Use the tracker as a place to organize your development journey, review your progress, and build more awareness of how you spend your time learning and coding.

👨‍💻 How I built it

I designed and developed DevTracr as a full-stack application, working across the frontend, backend, database, integrations, and deployment.

The project has also been a learning experience in taking an idea beyond writing code — building a usable interface, connecting different components, deploying the application, and making it available for other developers to try.

🌱 I'd love feedback from the developer community

DevTracr is still evolving, and I want to understand what would make it genuinely useful in a developer's daily workflow.

I'd especially appreciate your thoughts on these questions:

  • Would you use a dedicated tool to track your learning and coding activity?
  • What information would you want to see on a developer progress dashboard?
  • Would editor integration make this kind of tool more useful to you?
  • What would you change or improve?

I'm interested in honest feedback, including criticism and suggestions for features that would solve real problems.
