Structure-only ensemble beats foundation models: VIDRAFT #1 on Polaris HIA
VIDRAFT just took #1 on the Polaris HIA (Human Intestinal Absorption) benchmark — predicting whether an oral drug is absorbed in the intestine, from molecular structure (SMILES) alone.
Result
-
vidraft-hia-molformer-chemberta-ensemble-> AUROC 0.990 - Beat AceProp (0.989) and TabPFNv2 (0.989) on a blind, competitive board.
- VIDRAFT's 15th Polaris drug-discovery #1.
Why it is interesting
A structure-only heterogeneous ensemble (MoLFormer + ChemBERTa) topping strong foundation models — no cell-imaging, no extra modalities. Honest scope: the ChemBERTa reinforcement helped on HIA specifically; not every ADMET task improved. But all 15 crowns are on boards with real competitors, not empty padding.
HIA is a key early gate in drug screening — poorly absorbed candidates get dropped early.
